Project Overview

Noise Map is a research project developing tools to create noise exposure contour data using IoT devices, mobile applications, and chatbots with geographic position overlay on a map.

Objectives

  • Collect real-time noise data from IoT sensor nodes deployed across urban areas
  • Generate noise exposure contour maps with geographic position overlay
  • Provide a mobile application for community-based noise reporting
  • Integrate chatbot interface for querying noise data by location

Methodology

The system uses a network of low-cost IoT microphones to measure ambient sound levels at regular intervals. Data is transmitted to a cloud backend where it is processed and aggregated into contour maps using interpolation algorithms. The resulting maps are served via a web and mobile interface.
